Love my life
So I’m currently at the library printing out all the articles I need to read for my sexual ethics class on Monday, and since one of the printers is broken I had to send my papers to the other printer way at the other end of the library. As I walked up I saw this woman looking through papers to pick out whatever she printed, and I asked her if she could set aside the two articles I had...

I love hearing the wind howl outside my window.
It’s a sound that simultaneously turns me on and makes me feel sleepy. I always have an easier time winding down when it sounds like a storm is about to blow through. Though I have no one to keep me company I can’t help but feel incredibly secure as I lay here and listen to Mother Nature prattle on. Chaos cannot touch me so long as I keep the windows closed.

As I was walking across campus today I noticed four different black gloves in four rather arbitrary spots. It looked as though four OJ Simpsons just visited the Normandy area and tossed their gloves in different places on UMSL’s campus. If any bodies turn up in the next few days I’m most definitely starting my own CSI-style investigation detail. I feel like I’ve watched enough...

I'm sorry to be this person,
because I normally get pretty jealous of people who make announcements like this, but I never get to be this person, so I’m taking advantage of the circumstances: I’M GOING TO SAN FRANCISCO FOR SPRING BREAK! I’ve never been to California, and now I’ll finally get the chance to check out the state I one day hope to live in. I’m so freaking excited!

Four days gone,
and I don’t miss Facebook at all. It’s cool to wake up and see that what I find on my dashboard here is 1/5 less dramatic than everything that would pop up on my newsfeed and on my good friends’ pages. I’m digging the disconnect and I already feel better and more focused when I’m on my computer. In a world where there’s so much to worry about, it’s just...

That is, unless they’re just really sad about having to leave their parents’ house to go back to school when all they want is to stay there and spend more time with them. Today was the first day I got to see my mom in a few weeks, and it was really nice to spend the afternoon with her. She showed me slide shows that my uncle put together for my grandpa’s funeral, letters that my...

Uh oh
My allergies have been acting up today and they’re starting to affect my lungs. My airways are starting to tighten up but I’m running out of emergency medicine. I’m trying to not freak out so as to avoid making it worse, because if I can put off using my rescue inhaler then I can put off trying to make a doctor’s appointment to get another prescription. Mum already said she...

It’s really wonderful to have someone give me constructive feedback about my poetry so that I can continue to improve my writing. I love that this lady took the time to analyze what worked well, what could use improvement, and where I could push myself further. It’s nice to know that someone really carefully read what I wrote, and isn’t just there to blow smoke and tout me as the...

Flannery O’Connor’s “A Good Man is Hard to Find” is an absolutely terrible story to read right before you get ready for bed, and especially so when you’ve just lost a grandparent. It seems even worse when you note the similarities between your own recently-buried grandfather and the grandmother featured in the story who, at the end, gets shot three times in the chest...

This is you.
This is always me. EDIT: This was submitted by Barat quite some time ago. For some reason the “Publish” option wasn’t showing up, and so this sat in my inbox for a while. Tumblr decided to start working with me instead of against me, I guess.

Yesterday was also Anna Howard Shaw Day.
Oh my, how did I overlook this crucial detail? How could I forsake the good nature of one spirit animal (Liz Lemon) for a sad one (Bridget Jones)? I am watching that episode before I do anything else.

My emotions are everywhere today.
I just cried after listening to a voicemail from my mom. She wished me a happy Valentine’s Day, told me she loves me, and said she’ll be coming home tomorrow; and when I hung up I lost it. This day has been a mixture of loneliness and great friendship. The day got exponentially better when I got gussied up and went out to dinner with Annie, and I swear it was one of the best meals I...

I would really just love to fast-forward to my Galentine’s Day dinner with Annie and then fast-forward again to the point where my homework is finished and I can go to sleep. I’m sad today because when I started thinking about what the new year would bring back in December I had thought about this day, and about how Valentine’s Day might actually unravel in my favor and be really...

The Anti-Valentine's Day Post
For the past couple of weeks my poetry workshop professor has been encouraging us to write poems for Valentine’s Day. This encouragement has only managed to produce sadness in my heart and a strong distaste for the holiday overall. I kind of want to be like: “Listen, not everyone in this class has been happily married for 26 years like you. Some of us are representing the...

Oh, yes.
Yes, I just love waking up to the newly-installed fire alarms at 4:00am; hurriedly walking past a bunch of male students (with crazy hair and no bra) down the hallway to make sure everything is fine; and waiting for the police to do their job and shut off this malfunctioning system. THANKS, UMSL! YOUR STUFF JUST WORKS SO FREAKING WELL ALL THE DAMN TIME! HUZZAH, UNNECESSARY WAKE-UP CALLS!
