That is, unless they’re just really sad about having to leave their parents’ house to go back to school when all they want is to stay there and spend more time with them.
Today was the first day I got to see my mom in a few weeks, and it was really nice to spend the afternoon with her. She showed me slide shows that my uncle put together for my grandpa’s funeral, letters that my grandpa had written in college, and notes about things he did when he was younger. It was really cool to be able to read things he wrote when he was around my age, and I learned things about him that he had never mentioned to us. My mom also brought back a book of poetry for me that he had while he was in college. It’s an absolutely perfect old book: older book smell, soft pages, folded corners, and my grandpa’s name written inside the cover. I love this book, and I am so thankful it’s been passed on to me. I consider it one of my newest prized possessions.
I am a grateful for this day, but I’m sad that it’s over. I wish colleges recognized President’s Day so I could have spent the night at home as opposed to coming back to school for homework and classes.
